“EASY EDDIE” AND HIS JOURNEY FOR REDEMPTION!!

95f0ee28e2531d11_landingAl Capone wasn’t famous for anything heroic. He was notorious for enmeshing the windy city in everything from bootlegged booze and prostitution to murder. Capone had a lawyer nicknamed “Easy Eddie”. Eddie’s skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.

To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. He and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion that filled an entire Chicago City block with all of the conveniences of the day. Eddie lived the high life of the Chicago mob and gave little consideration to the atrocity that went on around him.

Eddie however had a son that he loved dearly and “Easy Eddie” saw to it that his son had everything money could buy for price was no object. And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie tried to teach his son right from wrong because he wanted him to be a better man than he was.

Yet, with all his wealth he couldn’t pass on a good name or example to his son. One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision. Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done, so he went to the authorities to reveal the truth with documents about Capone’s syndicate operation and clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some semblance of integrity.

But he would have to testify against The Mob, the cost would be deadly “but no greater love” then to give one’s life forimages another. Within the year Easy Eddie’s life ended in a blaze of gunfire on the streets of Chicago. But, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer, his life. Police removed from his pockets a religious medallion and a poem that read:

THE CLOCK OF LIFE IS WOUND BUT ONCE AND NO MAN, [ONLY GOD] HAS THE POWER TO TELL JUST WHEN THE HANDS WILL STOP. [So] at this moment is the only time you own. For the clock may soon be still. Consistent with this, World War II produced many heroes. One such man was Lieutenant Commander Butch O’Hare.

He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific. Wikipedia tells of the early life of Edward O’Hare. Butch became the Navy’s first Ace of WWII, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29.

butchHis home town would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O’Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man. So, the next time you find yourself at O’Hare International, Butch’s memorial displays his statue and his Medal of Honor which is located between Terminals 1 and 2. My friends BUTCH O’HARE WAS EASY EDDIE’S SON.

So now Let’s FOCUS today my friends on each of our legacies that we are leaving our friends, families, love one’s neighbors, co-workers and a world whose spiritual compass is forever pointing in the wrong direction. “Easy Eddie” in spite of his misplaced values throughout his life understood right from wrong and wanted something better for his son so he made a choice that eventually cost him his life.

in addition, He could have groomed his son for the life he was accustomed to or for a man with integrity, and respect that cared and would give his life for others in which he did. Friends Christ expects a personal commitment from us today, so that by your faith “my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” John 15:8 (NKJV)

we must never forget that we are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, [and it is our responsibility to carry out Christ mandate throughout the world as we] proclaim the excellencies of him who called [each of us] out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)

My friends, life is short, let’s make the best of what time we have left as we move closer to Christ return for “THE CLOCK OF LIFE IS WOUND BUT ONCE AND NO MAN, [ONLY GOD] HAS THE POWER TO TELL JUST WHEN THE HANDS WILL STOP.”

So my friends today. Stay focused, remain faithful, love one another and endure till the end and never forget to STUDY&PRAY
